A little background:
I have been giving a lot of thought lately about all of the things my family takes for granted. We spend money on things such as clothes and in the same week we are donating bags of clothes simply because we do not like the style. I have been trying to think of ways that we can consume less. I decided that I am going to try second hand shopping and see what happens. I have been a little bit of brat about this in the past. I am not a fan of shopping at stores like Ross and Marshall’s because I like to walk in a store, see what they have to offer, grab it and get out of there. I try it on at home and then bring it back if it doesn’t work out. Looking through racks of stuff has never been enjoyable for me. I also typically like to buy things that will last because I do not want to have to shop a lot (not my idea of a good time), so I do not usually buy things from lower quality stores. I am admitting to this so that you can see that shopping at thrift stores is going to be a bit of a stretch for me. But I think it will be a good stretch.
My first trip to a Thrift Store (since deciding to try my little experiment):
It took me about two hours to go through the sections of the store that interested me. I was getting a feel for the layout of the store. I ended up buying about 10 clothing items and some canning jars. The clothing pieces were almost all new with tags on. I was planning on taking a photo before I washed them, but I totally forgot. For now on, I will photograph my finds. I have to say I was shocked at how much fun I had. I normally hate shopping. It was like looking for treasures. Sure there was a lot of yucky stuff, but then I would find something fun and get all excited. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had fun shopping, I cannot wait to go again.
Do any of you have any tips for me? Have you tried this?
Link up if you posted about great finds this week…

I love thrift stores. They do take more time and are better if you don’t have kids in tow, but I find amazing brands and in like new condition all the time. Honestly I get more complements on my thrift store stuff than anything else. The goodwill had a section that is brand items that are more expensive, but loss of time they don’t recognize some nice brands like Ann Taylor loft
Thanks for the comment. I was really surprised at the quality of clothes I picked out. Most of them were brand new. Brands from Nordstrom’s, Victoria’s Secret (pants)
, Neiman Marcus, Banana Republic and a few others. I am excited to go again.
